Regulatory information
The Insolvency Directory is a UK directory and referral service. This page explains what we are, what we are not, how we verify listed firms, and who to complain to.
In England and Wales, personal insolvency solutions include IVAs, bankruptcy and Debt Relief Orders. Different rules apply in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

What this service is
The Insolvency Directory is a directory of UK insolvency and debt-solution firms, plus a matching form that can introduce a visitor to up to three verified firms in their area. Listings are compiled from public registers and may later be claimed by the firm.
What this service is not
- Not an insolvency practice or Insolvency Practitioner.
- Not a solicitors' firm.
- Not an FCA-authorised debt counsellor or lender.
- Not a source of personal legal, financial or debt advice to any individual.
How we verify firms
When a firm claims a listing we ask for a work email and an IP or SRA number. We check those details against the Insolvency Service register and the member lists of recognised professional bodies (IPA, ICAEW, ICAS) and, where relevant, the SRA. A "Verified" badge means we have completed that review — it is not a recommendation of the firm.
Complaints about a listed firm
Complaints about a firm's advice or conduct should go to that firm first, then to the relevant regulator or ombudsman — not to this directory. Typical routes:
- Licensed insolvency practitioners: their recognised professional body (IPA, ICAEW, ICAS or equivalent) and the Insolvency Service.
- Solicitors: the SRA and the Legal Ombudsman.
- FCA-authorised debt-counselling firms: the firm, then the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Complaints about the directory
If your complaint is about this website — an inaccurate listing, a data request, or how we handled an introduction — email support@theinsolvencydirectory.co.uk. We aim to respond within 10 working days.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you give debt advice?
- No. We publish general information and introduce people to regulated firms. We do not tell any individual which debt solution they should enter.
- Are you FCA-authorised?
- We are not an FCA-authorised firm. Introductions to debt-solution providers can raise credit-broking questions — we publish this page so that is explicit, and paid lead products will not launch without a legal review.
- How do you verify firms?
- Claims are checked against IPA, ICAEW, ICAS, SRA and Insolvency Service register information, plus a work-email check. Manual review is used where an automatic match is not possible.
